Why did Cleopas and his friend head out of Jerusalem on the Emmaus road? Were they running away; were they abandoning the other disciples? And who was Cleopas’ friend – perhaps it was his wife. Wouldn’t it be amazing to be walking along and then chatting with a stranger who knew nothing of what had been happening over the past few days in Jerusalem, only to then realise that this stranger knew everything, and that he was not a stranger at all. They were so down-hearted, and the last thing that they could have expected was for Jesus to come along side them. What a story. It is no wonder that they did not recognise Jesus. So they simply had to immediately tell the others.

How would this affect you in such a situation? I believe that this event is given to us today so that we can project ourselves to be on the road to Emmaus. Not just to be touched or even challenged. But to be changed!
