This sermon:

Do It All for the Glory of God

Living All of Life for the Glory of God.
Whatever You Do — Do It All for the Glory of God.

Our lives are ordinary and rarely spectacular. Only a few of us are celebrities, political giants, or major achievers. And even then, much of their lives is very ordinary. For every person, most of our time consists of ordinary things, such as sleeping, getting out of bed, making breakfast, answering messages, driving somewhere, talking to family, spending money, waiting, resting, and making dozens of decisions. All things that no one else notices. But even in every one of these things, God seeks for us to bring glory to him in what we do, think, or say. Why? Because this is what we were made for, and he knows that this is what is best for us, because this is what brings the best out of us.

Few of us seem to realise that as we contemplate the glory of Christ, the Holy Spirit transforms us into his image. It usually happens very Slowly.  Often painfully.  But it truly does happen if we seek God. This is when the Spirit changes what we love. He causes us to care less about our rights. He turns our attention from ourselves towards Christ.

In doing all that we do for the glory of God, the question is not only, “Am I allowed to do this?” It’s not, “What do I want to do?” The Christian’s question is, “What will show the goodness of God, the holiness of God, the grace of God, and the worth of God in this situation?” “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31). Bob packs in so many Bible verses to show that this is not just an idle comment in God’s word, but this is throughout the Bible. Serving God brings the best out of us.
