Do you always have a Plan ‘B’ in case something does not work out the way you intended? This passage looks like it’s God’s Plan ‘B’ for the Israelites when they demanded to have a king like all the other nations, rejecting God’s call for them to be holy, and Him as their king. Dean goes verse by verse through this passage in Deuteronomy to help us understand how vital it is for us to understand God and His ways for us today. We see that the only king that fulfils God’s requirements is Jesus, and that His plan all along was to love a rebellious people and bring them eternal life through Jesus as king; a rich, gracious plan since the beginning of time. It was not a plan ‘B’ after all. The sobering aspect of this, however, is that there is no plan ‘B’; never was, and never will be. If we don’t accept Jesus as king, there’s no hope for us.
