#7 in the Series: ‘The Book of Psalms’

Psalm 73 is about Asaph’s journey to stronger faith in God, and he starts off by writing “surely God is good…“. He seems to struggle with the question often faced – ‘how can an infinite powerful God be good, and yet allow the wicked to flourish, and allow God’s own people go unrewarded‘. However, the reality in life is that God’s ways with his children are often not those that his children would choose. But this is often a good thing, because God knows everything and seeks what ultimately is best for us, because his love for us individually is so strong that we then fail to comprehend the depth of his love, even for those who accept him as Lord. Asaph concludes his psalm with the words “It is good to be near God“.

Jeff goes through the whole of Psalm 73 and ties it in with other appropriate passages to help us to understand that it is best when we are closest to God, closest to the one who knows us best and who seeks the best for us. Closest when we turn to him, accept Jesus for who he is, and so become his child.
