This sermon:

How Good Do You Have to Be?

Many of us will recall The Good Samaritan recorded for us in the gospel of Luke 10:25-37. This guy who asked the question – “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” was a self-righteous arrogant religious lawyer. But I guess he thought that he was good enough (not unlike most of us too). So Jesus told him this story of the good Samaritan, and then said to the man asking the question, “Go and do likewise.” Is this a clear statement of how to get to heaven? No, it is just a jolt to wake up the man. What really matters is what Jesus first said to him – “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”, then Jesus added “Do this and you will live.” (refer Luke 10:25-28). What is recorded in the Bible is a great ongoing challenge for every one of us.
