This is Palm Sunday – when the Jews enthusiastically celebrated Jesus entering Jerusalem like a humble king, in peace, riding humbly on a donkey. Jesus, in this brief public celebration of who he is, the King of Glory and Messiah worthy of praise, was deliberately polarizing their position. His enemies had no intention of arresting Jesus during festival time, this would be far too risky, but Jesus deliberately forced their hand. He knew that prophesy had to be fulfilled, and fulfilled for our sake. This triumphal entry by Jesus was the last straw for the religious leaders of the time, and it brought on the events of the next week – all set in motion by Jesus himself – so that he would be sacrificed (crucified for your sin) during Passover. As he rode along he approached Jerusalem, saw the city, and he wept over it (Luke 19:41). This is the challenge for us all today: Jesus is king, and wants to be the Lord of your life, for your benefit. You simply need to turn to him and accept him as Lord. God allows you to decide your own eternal destiny.
