Jesus is in Jerusalem, and it is just a few days before he will be crucified. The religious leaders knew that he was talking about them and they did not like it. Jesus tells us about his invitation to all, and how so many people reject his offer of grace. God goes to great lengths to draw people to him, and this is illustrated by the parable. He is also virtually quoting from Isaiah 61:10 ‘…he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness…’ Paul then exhorts us in Romans 13:14 to ‘clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think of how to gratify the desires of the flesh.’ This parable provides wise guidance to us.
