#4 in the Series: ‘The Book of Psalms’

The great Baptist commentator, Dr. Graham Scroggie wrote of Psalm 23, “This is the ‘Pearl of the Psalms,’ the simplest, sweetest song that was ever sung.”
Psalm 23 spells out the personal relationship our LORD has with His people INDIVIDUALLY, in the same way that Christian believers can speak in personal terms about our relationship with Jesus. As Christians, we can confidently proclaim Galatians 2:20b: “I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” The God of the universe is not only cognisant of me – He is deeply interested in me PERSONALLY. That’s the message of the Gospel: YOU CAN HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

Many find this hard to understand and so are unwilling to accept this as truth. It is only by experience with God that this truth becomes a reality. Not just knowing a lot about God, but actually knowing God personally. Does this sound odd to you? Well think about how you learn – sometimes through books or through other people, but primarily you learn by experience. You learn much from watching and talking to other people, but it is not until you try it out yourself that it becomes real. A teacher has not succeeded in teaching a pupil unless the pupil themselves then demonstrate what they have learned. This is the same in learning from Jesus Christ, through a personal relationship with him, then putting into practice what he asks of you – and WOW, the amazement when things come together miraculously. Not just once, but many times every day. It then becomes compelling to want to foster that ongoing personal relationship with Jesus.
