No 4 in the series ‘Heros of the Faith’

The Bible book of Judges declares in chapter 21 verse 25 that “In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.” This seems to fit the character of Samson very well because he did what he liked and rarely sought God. But God did use him in spite of his perpetual sin. However, Samson also suffered greatly because of his actions. Samson gets more space than anyone else in the book of Judges. Perhaps this is because he is one of the most interesting characters in the Old Testament. He also rates a mention in the list of the Heros of the Faith in Hebrews 11. And he doesn’t seem to have any friends or family; he never works with a team and doesn’t lead an army – he is a lone wolf.

God teaches us much through Sampson, if we are prepared to look carefully at what he is telling us. So there are many questions we should ask and try to understand. A key question is ‘why would God choose a person like Samson?’
