This sermon:

That You May Know Him Better

What is PRAYER? How often do you pray to God? Where is your prayer focus? What makes up prayer? And how do those of faith pray to God? So often we only pray to God when things are going wrong for us. We plead with God to be released from the trouble we are in – prayers of supplication (requests), or intercession for others who are dear and near to us and in desperate need of God’s help. But prayer is so much more than asking God to release us from a difficult or hurtful situation. Prayer starts with recognising who God is and what he has done for us. Thanking and praising him for his wonderful provisions, seeking his forgiveness for doing, saying, and even thinking things that are not right or good. Also recognising his blessings upon us. However, this is not easy to do unless first we know and understand who God is and what he has done for us. Thankfully this information is written in his word, in the Bible. But we do need help and guidance from God, often through others who know him, to get to this understanding that only God can reveal to us. Others may help, but only he can reveal himself to you. Fortunately this is something that he is so very keen to do – he reaches out to us, we just need to welcome him to work in us. This is why we need to know God better.
