We are comfortable when our world is ordered and well structured. But the early church, the New Testament church, was obviously a little different to that. In our reading from 1 Corinthians chapter 14, it is clear that lots of people were speaking in gatherings, including women. Adam talks about this and refers to words of prophesy, and what prophesy really means. He includes references to the book of Acts, and the Old Testament books of Isaiah, Micah, Psalms, and Joel, to help us understand what God is saying to us. There are no barriers for people to speak, no matter where they are from, their age, gender, education and experiences. Sharing and being open to God, particularly speaking from the heart about Christian faith, is so vital for life.
