The BIBLE is unique – it contains 66 real-world documents. Christian foundations can be investigated, historically by archaeologists, historians, scientists and textual critics. Academics are encouraged to approach the Bible documents, and particularly the New Testament documents in the Bible, as they would any other ancient writings so as to ascertain their authenticity. Many of the researching academics are Christians, but also many are not. Some are believers while others are skeptics. The German critic Gerd Ludemann said “It may be taken as historically certain that Peter and the disciples had experiences, after Jesus’ death, in which Jesus appeared to them as the risen Christ.” However, Gerd is an atheist and not a Christian. He could see this truth, yet he could not take that vital step to believe in the truth. Christians maintain that the explanation that best explains the New Testament Bible facts is the one the disciples came to – that the Heavenly Father raised Jesus from the dead. However, sometimes proofs for God’s existence can distract us from God Himself. We fail to hear the inner voice of God, but for those who listen, God becomes a personal reality in their lives. God’s word in the Bible then starts to come alive and make so much sense. The Bible entreats us to – “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8
