#6 in the Series: ‘The Book of Psalms’
There are many types of psalms: thanksgiving, praise, hymns of faith, doxology, imprecatory psalms, penitential psalms, and more. Psalm 13 is in the category of lament or affliction, written by David when times were causing him much grief. He was obviously in a very difficult time – deserted by everyone, and he seems to have felt that he was also deserted by God. But David is wise and he goes to God, seeking strength. In spite of all this he also praises God and recognises that God has been good to him.
Through this Psalm, Jeff encourages us to take our questions to God. To be honest with God. To take our fears to God in prayer. And to remember to always praise God when things are going well, and when we are in good times. Even praising God when things are tough, by recognising the always loving positive unchanging character of God.
